Status and Prospects of Inflation

The theory of inflation has passed all observational challenges to date. After reviewing these succeses, I present the prospects for understanding the physics driving inflation. These prospects depend on two classes of tests, one that has passed into the hands of the experimentalists and a new test whose scope has yet to be determined but which promises to provide a new handle on the physics of inflation.
