UNC Physics and Astronomy Professors Joaquin Drut and Jonathan Heckman have both received Junior Faculty Development Awards this year. Dr. Heckman won his award to support research in “compactified” string theory, and seeks ways to extend the standard model of particle physics. Dr. Drut won his award to help build high performance computing that will be dedicated to undergraduate use in studying non-equilibrium problems in quantum statistical mechanics.
