Prof. Art Champagne
Art Champagne is the new Director of the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL), which is one of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Centers of Excellence. Professor Champagne joined Carolina in 1990. Prior to coming to UNC he was an Assistant Professor at Princeton University. He now holds a William C. Friday Distinguished Professorship at UNC and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). He has also served as the Chair of the Physics Department at UNC from 2009-2012. Since coming to Carolina, he helped establishing one of the nation’s top research programs in nuclear astrophysics. Professor Champagne will become the sixth Director of TUNL and the first director with a primary faculty appointment outside Duke University.
