Stargazing on Tap

November 18, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Once again our Astronomy on Tap team is partnering with James Creek Cider House (https://jamescreekciderhouse.com/) and the Raleigh Astronomy Club (https://raleighastro.org/) to host a public stargazing event next month on Saturday, November 18th, and we need your help!

Our regular Astronomy on Tap events are focused on bringing professional astrophysicists and astronomers to the public so that people can learn about current astronomy research in an accessible way. On the other hand, we don’t do much stargazing at all since we’re located in the middle of downtown Durham. So, we are heading to James Creak Cider House in Cameron, NC for some dark skies.

We had our first Stargazing on Tap event over the summer, and it was a hit! The Raleigh Astronomy Club provides telescopes and helps guide people through the night sky, while the Astronomy on Tap team brings professional astrophysicists and astronomers to chat with the public about their research! We are in need of grad students and faculty volunteers who want to share their knowledge with others. Undergrads are welcome to come help out as well. This would be a very casual and informal event. There is no need to prepare a powerpoint. You don’t even have to know anything about stargazing. Simply show up, enjoy some cider, and chat with people about astronomy/physics! As long as the weather cooperates, the event will take place on Saturday, November 18th from 5:30pm – 8:30pm (but you can leave when you need to).

If you would like to volunteer, please fill out this google form (https://forms.gle/sLJfzq4BkuXUmiBy9) with your name and email.
