Women in Physics Research Symposium

April 16, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

UNC-CH Women in Physics Research Symposium

This semester, WiP will be hosting our Second Annual Women in Physics Research Symposium on April 16th from 4-6 PM in Phillips 277.

If you are unfamiliar with our symposium, it is an annual symposium where undergraduates, especially first and second year students, are able to present posters on research or projects they have conducted this semester. We will also have guest speakers, catering, and an awards ceremony at this event. Additionally, there will be a featured art exhibition composed of short essays on students’ experiences and goals in the Physics and Astronomy Department.

You do not have to be an official member of WiP to present, but we will ask all presenters to participate in the events and art project related to the symposium. WiP will be hosting two pre-symposium workshops—one on creating a research poster and the second on effectively presenting a research poster. At the symposium, we will also be showcasing an outreach art project to celebrate diversity in physics and raise awareness about experiences and perspectives. Last year we completed a photography project on this topic, and this year we plan to create a collection of writings and an additional visual art piece incorporating this writing.

We will have judges from the Physics and Astronomy Department to give feedback on your presentation with suggestions on how to improve. We hope you will come present at our event, but also invite you to participate in our art project, our workshops, and attend our symposium even if you will not be presenting.

For students, if you are interested in participating in the symposium or related events, please fill out this Google Form: Sign-Up Link: bit.ly/wipRS WiP will be in contact shortly with more details about our workshop and art project.
