Dr. Chris Hughes, a Physics and Astronomy professor and director of the Materials Science Center at James Madison University, was recently given an Outstanding Faculty Award by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia. The award, which honors superior teaching, research, and public service at public and private universities, is the highest faculty honor in the state of Virginia. Only 13 of 92 applicants submitted by their institutions received this honor in 2016.
Chris obtained his PhD from UNC in 1993, working with Drs. Max Swanson and Laurie McNeil, and joined the JMU faculty in 1997. The UNC Physics and Astronomy department would like to congratulate him for this prestigious award!
