A physics laboratory exam will be held during one of the lab periods near the end of the semester. This exam is used to assess each student’s ability to make accurate measurements with typical physics lab instruments, analyze and interpret empirical data, apply fundamental physics principles, design simple experiments, evaluate results, analyze measurement errors, and communicate findings clearly and concisely. In completing the exercises in this hands-on exam, students are permitted to use their lab manual, notes, textbook, calculator, and any other resources (except other students). Since this is an individual lab exam, each student should make a concerted effort to master the experimental physics techniques in all of the lab experiments performed throughout the semester. Many of the lab instructors provide special review sessions to help their students prepare for the lab exam, and students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by attending the preparation session led by their TA or another instructor for the same lab course.
