“UNC-CH PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY DISCUSSION”
February 17 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
UNC-CH PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY DISCUSSION
On Friday Feb. 17 and Friday Apr. 7 at 2:30 in Phillips 277, a task force including faculty, staff, and grad & undergrad students will lead moderated discussions of issues that concern all of us but also have a diversity dimension. We are currently taking suggestions for the second topic (feel free to use the suggestion box near Phillips 212). The first topic will be Health and Safety, with this discussion prompt: “Describe a concern you have had regarding your or someone else’s physical health or safety in a physics/astronomy setting. The concern may involve assumptions or ignorance regarding someone’s situation, issues with the physical environment or department/university operations, or threatening or fear-inducing behavior. Possible examples include issues with working late, with the layout or protocols of a lab, or with special needs (e.g., due to pregnancy, transgender identity, hearing loss, etc.).”
