We are excited to announce that Friday, November 6, from 4-5 pm, we are hosting the first department-wide DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Hour. The theme for this inaugural event will be inclusive teaching. We will be having a short journal club presentation (article linked below signature) and a follow-up panel discussion. Our seven panelists are:

Melissa Kissling (undergraduate)

These fantastic panelists will help us to understand how explicit discussion of underrepresentation could nurture an atmosphere of diversity and inclusion, both with regard to the article’s scientific results and the personal experiences of students, teaching assistants, and faculty members. We will culminate with a discussion – between organizers, panelists, and attendees – on how to apply the article’s findings and panelists’ comments to teaching practices within our department.
